With VAT rates ranging from 15 to 27%, it is essential to know where, how and when VAT is applied and how to recover it. By following the local VAT laws and regulations, not-for-profit associations and corporations will lower the cost of their event by an average of 21%.

This session will help planners understand how to handle the VAT when organizing an event in the European Union. Moderated by Heike Mahmoud joined by Jean François Benard and Marc Lieber will give an update about new trends and developments in European cities and discuss how American clients can get better access and support to organize their congresses or events in Europe.

Based at the Headquarter of BC&A in Paris, Jean-François is the Director of sales of the Firm. Founded in 2004, BC&A is a VAT/GST consultant to the event industry, specialized in managing and recovering VAT for association events, corporate events, incentives and business travel expenses. The Firm specializes in assisting companies and associations in understanding the value added tax (VAT) and facilitating its recovery where they are holding events.

 

Marc Lieber, VAT expert for events, BC&A

Based in Los Angeles, Marc is in charge of the American office of BC&A. Since 2008, the office specializes in assisting north-American companies and associations in understanding the value added tax (VAT) and facilitating its recovery. Founded in 2004, BC&A is a VAT/GST consultant to the event industry, specialized in managing and recovering VAT for association events, corporate meetings, incentives and business travel expenses.

Heike Mahmoud started her career in the hotel industry. Further stations were than Marketing Manager for a Trade Show Organizer and Incentive House and Project Manager with a Professional Congress Organizer (PCO). Furthermore she worked 3,5 years as an Sales Manager at the Estrel Hotel & Convention Center Berlin. During this time she was in the Marketing team of the pre-opening of Estrel Convention Center, which offers seatings for up to 5,000 people.

Heike started as a Director Conventions of the visitBerlin Berlin Convention Office of the Berlin Tourism & Kongress GmbH (visitBerlin) in July 2001. Her role is, along with a dedicated team of 17 co-workers, to position the city of Berlin internationally and nationally as a leading meeting and convention destination. Within the past 15 years, the booking volume of conferences, congresses, events and incentives almost has more than doubled in Berlin.

Two degree’s in business management and marketing form the basis for her professional activities. She is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) since July 2006. Heike has been actively involved in diverse associations of the Meeting Industry for many years now: She is the Past-Vice President Meetings Industry of European Cities Marketing (ECM), Member of the Executive Board of BestCities Global Alliance, member of the Advisory Board of the University of Applied Sciences in Worms, Germany and Past-President of the MPI Germany Chapter and SITE Germany Chapter.
