San Juan, PR.– From New York to Philadelphia, from Atlanta to Miami and from Chicago to Minneapolis, Meet Puerto Rico showcased the Island in a series of presentations to more than 125 clients specializing in meetings and conventions and came away with big results.

The Meet Puerto Rico brand sales team, together with hotel and destinations services members including Hilton Hotels, El San Juan, Condado Vanderbilt, La Concha, Ritz Carlton San Juan, Castillo Tours, Travel Services, and GSI, welcomed the holiday season with coquito, an authentic Puerto Rican Holiday beverage made of coconut eggnog, click here for recipeas well as comprehensive presentations of the destination’s development news and property renovations, among others.

Milton Segarra, CDME, President & CEO of Meet Puerto Rico described the holiday roadshow as a platform to demonstrate that Puerto Rico is very much open for business to welcome groups, meetings and conventions. “Even though 2016 has been a challenging year for us, we are entering an exciting time for Puerto Rico. We are seeing a renewed interest in considering Puerto Rico as the ideal destination for meetings and conventions,” Segarra said.

Over the past 10 years the hospitality industry has been able to maintain a solid investment pace with more than $3.3 billion in expenditures from the private sector and the state government. That includes new hotel products such as a new AC Marriott, Hyatt Place and a very exciting pipeline of new developments that includes brands such as JW Marriott and Four Seasons, along with ongoing renovations, airport expansion and modernization in other properties.

With more than 1,950 weekly non-stop and connecting flights to Puerto Rico from the United States, and the International and Caribbean Region, Puerto Rico is a great option for planners seeking to offer an experiential and unconventional meeting in the Caribbean.

In addition, the new District Live! Project being developed in San Juan for the meetings and conventions segment is set to open in early 2019. District Live! will consist of a live event venue with a 6,000-person capacity; a 170-room brand hotel owned by Marriott Corp., and boasts 6,000 square feet of meeting space and 40,000 square feet of public areas including bars, restaurants and pools; as well as an eight-theater multiplex. This project alone represents an investment of approximately $100 million and is being managed by AEG Facilities and PRISA Group, a family-owned Puerto Rico based developer.

Celebrating the longest holiday season in the Americas roadshow, participants showcased the Island’s solid growth. “We are excited to share our destination’s developments as they demonstrate the huge potential Puerto Rico has to host major city-wide conventions, as well as smaller meetings. Puerto Rico is a destination rich in culture that provides the total immersion that planners are seeking, with the added perk that no passport is required for US citizens.” said Segarra.
