London & Partners, London’s convention bureau, announced it has experienced a major increase in event inquries this summer following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union. Between June and September, inquiries rose 41 percent versus the same period last year.
London saw the rise across all of its source markets, with inquiries from the U.S. up 22 percent, EMEA inquiries up 22 percent and domestic inquiries up 83 percent.
A number of suppliers, including ExCeL London, Maybourne Hotel Group and InterContinental London – The O2, have also experienced an increase in inquiries, and some overseas planners have been requesting to settle the cost of their events upfront due the fall in the value of the pound following the referendum results, London & Partners said.
This summer, London’s CVB launched its own version of the city-wide #LondonIsOpen campaign, which aims to provide information to event planners looking to host their events in London.
